Functional Range Conditioning
Functional Range Conditioning (FRC) is a system developed and designed off the latest scientific research to help you improve active range of motion, protect your joints, and rehabilitate lost ranges due to injury or disuse. Dr. Aaron Ayala was the first FRC provider in Ventura County and introduced this technique in 2016.
What is Functional Range Conditioning (FRC)?
Functional Rand Conditioning (FRC) is a system developed by Dr. Andreo Spina, a sports chiropractor out of Toronto, designed off the latest scientific research to help you improve active range of motion, protect your joints, and rehabilitate lost ranges due to injury or disuse.
The variety of principals include working, and better yet controlling end ranges for a particular joint. Isolation is the name of the game when working on Controlled Articular Rotations (CARs) as well as Progressive Angular Isometric Loads (PAILs) and Regressive Angular Isometric Loads (RAILs).
When used correctly, this methodology not only enhances the usable range of motion, but also bulletproofs joints and the tissues that control them. The result? Enhanced motor control, decreased risk of injury, and expanded movement potential.
Passive interventions rarely stick and have little carryover to life, let alone sports performance. The FRC system is designed to positively impact joints, tissues, and the neurological system that controls them.
Why do I need FRC?
Healthy joints move freely. While some believe in growing pains, the reality is that joints should not feel painful, restricted, or difficult to move.
Whether you have a recent injury or a recurring problem, the FRC system can greatly improve your ability to control your body through larger ranges of motion. This means higher quality of life by enabling to continued pursuit of activities you love.
Rehabilitation from or prevention of injury
Functional Range Conditioning is a great tool for rehabilitation from or prevention of injury.
In order to break down compensation patterns that yield inefficient movement, we must learn to control a joint independently from another so that we can reconstruct the movement from the ground up.
Progressively loading tissues through isometric muscle contractions can greatly improve strength and tissue remodeling when movement is painful. The PAILs and RAILs methodology allows Dr. Ayala to improve tissue resiliency without entering painful ranges of motion.
How can FRC help me?
Dr. Ayala is a certified provider of Functional Range Conditioning methodologies. His knowledge of the systems enables him to implement specific protocols to your rehabilitation and performance goals. Every individual and case is unique, so the use of the systems are customized to suit each person.
Dr. Ayala doesn’t just focus on the obvious symptom. He looks for dysfunction up the chain to see what caused the initial problem. He will take you through an extensive movement assessment to take a look at your body mechanics and to make sure that once you get out of pain, you stay out of pain. From your assessment, he’ll develop an active program so you are able to get back out there and do what you love.
